This dark grey modern kitchen in Woodlands was designed for a new extension where the clients wanted an island with seating for the family. The challenge was that the room wasn't large enough for a standard island to work comfortably.
Designed by Sharon and installed by Daniel, the kitchen uses Nobilia Line N Riva cabinetry in Concrete Terra, Caesarstone Piatra Grey worksurfaces and Bosch appliances. The Z-shaped peninsula Sharon designed gives the family the seating and working space they needed, in a layout the room could accommodate.

An island brief in a room that needed another answer.
The clients wanted a modern kitchen with seating for the family. An island was part of the original wish list, but the room in the new extension wasn’t large enough to carry one comfortably.
They also wanted the design to feel personal and slightly quirky, fitting naturally into the wider extension and living space.

A Z-shaped peninsula as the centrepiece.
The key move was the Z-shaped peninsula. It gives the family seating and an inviting social side to the kitchen, in a shape that fits the dimensions of the room.
The peninsula creates a natural working area, with the induction hob and sink placed in the activity-heavy zone. The route through the room stays open, keeping it connected to the wider extension.
The through-wall connection to the living space keeps the two areas linked. The kitchen attains its own identity as a room, with a clear layout, while remaining part of the extension as a whole.

A dark modern kitchen with warmth.
The cabinetry is Nobilia Line N Riva in Concrete Terra. The tone has a warm undertone that keeps the kitchen feeling grounded and liveable.
Caesarstone Piatra Grey was chosen for the worksurfaces, bringing a softer stone effect into the scheme. Bosch appliances complete the specification, sitting cleanly within the handleless design.
The warm oak floor, tan seating and rooflight add dimension to the darker cabinetry. The kitchen is modern and dark, with enough warmth in the materials to feel settled rather than severe.

The Z-shaped peninsula is the design solution that makes the kitchen work. Its shape creates island-style function and seating comfortably within the footprint of the room.
Family seating
The seating is built into the layout, so the family can gather at the kitchen as naturally as they cook in it. The route through the room stays clear.
Warm dark cabinetry
The Concrete Terra cabinetry gives the kitchen depth and a grounded, settled quality. It’s a warm tone for a dark modern kitchen.
Connection to the living space
The through-wall opening keeps the kitchen and living area visually linked. Each space has its own character, and the connection between them feels considered.
Light and warm finishes
The rooflight, warm oak flooring and tan seating bring lightness and texture to the darker cabinetry.

A modern family kitchen that solves the brief.
The finished kitchen gives the family what they came to us for: seating, flow and a design with some character. The Z-shaped peninsula does the structural work, and the dark cabinetry gives the room a strong identity. It’s a modern family kitchen with a layout shaped around the people who use it.
